ODSC Europe 2022 will be an exciting hybrid event, taking place in London and virtually, from June 15-16. With 50 workshops, 150 sessions and thousands of attendees, it is surely the place to learn about AI and ML and meet colleagues and experts from around the globe.

Choosing which sessions to attend is not always easy, so we put together this list of our top recommended sessions for the event. We chose them based on their innovative way of thinking and the new approaches and methodologies they offer, while remaining connected to real-life examples and challenges.

1. Keynote: MLOps Beyond Training: The Production-First Approach to AI

AI journeys usually start by manually building AI models. But to create business value, we need to take a production-first approach to MLOps. This means designing a continuous operational pipeline, automating components and measuring metrics. In this keynote session, Yaron Haviv, Iguazio’s co-founder and CTO, will explain what it means to operationalize ML, the challenges and how to overcome them. The session will include an overview of all the required steps alongside real-world examples.

2. Explainability by Design: a Methodology to Support Explanations in Decision-making Systems

How can we ensure automated decision-making is meaningful? A new method, explainability by design, introduces proactive measures to include explanations in the design, instead of treating it as an afterthought. In this eye-opening session, Luc Moreau from King’s College will describe the steps in this methodology and how to apply it to autonomous systems.

3. “It Worked on my Laptop, Now What?” Using OS Tool MLRun to Automate the Path to Production

Open source tool MLRun is an MLOps orchestration framework that accelerates the integration of AI/ML applications into existing business workflows. In this hands-on session, Gilad Shaham, Iguazio’s Director of Product, will show how to use MLRun, run it locally on Kubernetes, use Python to run a Kubernetes job with no code changes and track experiments.

4. Building an ML Factory: How Enterprises use MLOps Automation to Continuously Roll out New AI Services

Wed., June 15, 11:40am - 12:20pm

Enterprises looking to remain competitive are implementing MLOps to scale and reproduce ML processes. In this talk, Adi Hirschtein, VP Product at Iguazio, will cover three key enterprise case studies for building automated ML or DL pipelines: 1) Serving real-time recommendations for retail. 2) Scaling MLP pipelines to make PDFs searchable and indexable. 3) Deploying 40+ products at a large airline to tackle fraud and optimize routes.

5. Not Just Deep Fakes: Applications of Visual Generative Models in Pharma Manufacturing

Wed., June 15, 1:10pm - 2:10pm

Visual deep fakes are often considered to be dangerous, when maliciously abused. However, there are generative model use cases that can create real value. In this interesting talk, Guglielmo Iozzia will talk about using visual generative models for pharma manufacturing applications.

6. The Rapid Evolution of the Canonical Stack for Machine Learning

Wed., June 15, 1:30pm - 2:00pm

Google, Lyft, Microsoft and Amazon have all built AI/ML tech stacks that they use internally. But Lee Baker from AI Infrastructure Alliance advocates for a canonical ML stack for non-tech companies looking to scale. In this talk, he explains how teams can achieve true MLOps.

7. ML with Humans: Integrating Experts into the Learning Process

Wed., June 15, 3:30pm - 4:30pm

HITL (Human in the Loop) is a process for model improvement in the ML workflow in which experts provide feedback about ML model opinions. In his talk, Adam Reichenthal from Imperva shares how they used HITL to improve automated predictions of security policies for their customers. The process they used can be implemented across multiple use cases!

8. Hearing is Believing: Generating Realistic Speech with Deep Learning

Thu., June 16, 10:10am - 11:10am

TTS (Text-to-Speech) has advanced significantly thanks to deep learning. Today, open source tools enable engineers and scientists to recreate TTS by themselves. In this hands-on workshop, Alex Peattie, co-founder of Peg, will show us how.

9. A Systematic Approach for Building Full-Spectrum Model Monitoring

Thu., June 16, 3:25pm - 4:10pm

Model monitoring is critical for maintaining the accuracy of inferences in ML systems. But it’s not always easy. Mihi Mathur from Lyft will present how Lyft monitors problems, the architecture they use, how they leverage open source and the cultural change they went through along the way.
